Composite Carbide Welding Rod

The Composite Carbide Welding Rod combines WC-Co cemented carbide grains with a copper-based wear-resistant alloy. After overlay welding, it forms a high-hardness and wear-resistant surface layer, providing durable protection and refurbishment for oilfield and mining equipment under combined abrasive and impact wear.

Usage: Mainly used in oil and gas drilling( fishing tools, centralizers, hole openers), milling tools, agricultural machinery, grain and oil machinery, etc.

Feature: High hardness and cutting capability. The cemented carbide part forms a sharp edge for cutting operations, while the dull edge can be restored through grinding for grinding applications.

Size: 1.6~9.5mm. Can be tailored to customer requirements.

Description

The Composite Carbide Welding Rod combines WC-Co cemented carbide grains with a copper-based wear-resistant alloy. After overlay welding, it forms a high-hardness and wear-resistant surface layer, providing durable protection and refurbishment for oilfield and mining equipment under combined abrasive and impact wear.

  • Excellent wear resistance with strong retention of edge geometry
  • Tough copper-based matrix enhances weldability and bonding strength
  • Reliable protection against impact and abrasive media
  • Suitable for casting steel, carbon steel, and high-manganese steel
  • Compatible with TIG/gas welding / submerged arc welding

Composition & Structure

Project Ingredients/Materials Function
Rigid phase WC-Co cemented carbide (tungsten carbide-cobalt cemented carbide) Provides hardness, wear resistance, and anti-abrasion performance
coupling phase Copper-based alloy Improves wetting and bonding strength, enhances impact resistance

Performance Parameters vs. Industry Standards

Performance index Alloy composite welding rod (3BD64) Traditional manganite welding rod Common tungsten carbide electrode
Wear resistance (relative value) 10-15 1 5-8
Impact toughness (J/cm²) 12-15 25-30 8-10
Welding bond strength (MPa) ≥350 200-250 280-320

Note: The wear resistance is based on high-manganese steel (1.0), with data sourced from industry standard testing (ASTM G65 dry sand rubber wheel wear test).

Typical Applications

Mining equipment:

Jaw crusher tooth plates

Hammers, blades, screens

Wear parts of conveying systems

Oilfield drilling & production:

Wear-resistant repair of directional drilling tools

Hard-facing of drill string joints and centralizers

Overlay on wear parts of BOPs and wellhead devices

Reduce downtime and maintenance costs through repair-instead-of-replacement.
